The 1/4" barbed cross is used to connect four ends of 1/4" micro tubing with .140 ID to .170 ID, to connect or to extend and branch of three lines of micro tubing from the drip tubing. By using a barb, the micro tubing is pushed over the barb for a very tight fit.
